END OF YEAR REPORT 2008

Daniels first season outdoor and what a season it proved to be.

In the 2 stroke Rotax Daniel beat his personal best lap time six times, and ended up finishing in 5th place in this very difficult class.

In the 4 stroke Daniel looked comfartable every race all season. in what ever kart Daniel was in he was one of the quickest in any conditions. In the wet mainly you could see Daniels talent greater, he was the smoothest and the quickest and this is what won him the championship.

He won a total of 16 trophies.

The plan for 2009 is to be concentrating on the Pro Kart Clubman championship, Look out for number 40.

A big thankyou to all of Daniels sponsors.

Daniel partnered with Oliver Newman (10 teams)

Oliver started and qualified in 6th place but on the first turn lost his position and went last place. He managed to get back to 6th place.

Daniel then went out and it didn’t take him long to move up the places and he quickly got 3rd place, driving well in the conditions he loves.

Oliver went out again and raced well keeping position and challenging for 2nd.

Daniel went out for the last time and had 2nd place in his sights and he quickly got past and that’s how Daniel finished. He was also 2nd fastest on the track with a lap time 44.31 seconds.

A great way to end the season.

Daniel struggled in Heats 1 and 2 as conditions were really bad and the kart wasn’t set up correctly for this type of weather. Daniel was 4 seconds slower.

By Heat 3 Daniel raced brilliantly moving up to 4th place and holding his position for the whole race, it helped Daniel liking these conditions and he drove his best race of the season to finish 4th with a lap time 50.30 seconds, a great way to end the season.

Top Katz 16th November normal track

Daniel partnered with Oliver Newman (9 teams)

Daniel started 2nd on the grid and got off to a good start keeping his position. Within three laps Daniel was up into 1st place.

Oliver came on and had a really good session keeping in 1st place.

The track was very slippery and all the drivers were finding it difficult to keep on the track.

With 30 minutes left to go Daniel and Oliver were racing for 2nd and 3rd place. With only 7 minutes left to go. Oliver lost two places in the bad conditions putting them back to 5th place and that was how they finished.

Didn’t take long to regain the lead and had a good session.

Oliver had also a very good session keeping in position, with consistent lap times. Daniel and Oliver were 3rd fastest on the track lapping around 40.32 seconds.

Daniel was once again in the lead but hit a tyre wall and went back down to 3rd place and that’s how they finished.

The Race

Daniel qualified in 9th place and started well keeping his position round the first corner. All the drivers were finding it hard in the wet conditions.

As all the drivers in the heats had a very good set up Daniel was never gong to get near them. But in the wet as Daniel has showed before he can keep up with anyone.

He raced brilliantly keeping in 5th place the race holding of one of the top drivers for over 6 laps but on the last lap he lost the place.

6th place was no disgrace with a lap time of 01.05 minutes.

Topkatz 0ctober 19th Normal Track

Daniel partnered with Oliver Newman (10 teams)

Daniel went out and it didn’t take him long to be the quickest on the track and he got up to 2nd place.

Daniel and Oliver went right back to 9th but were ahead on pit stops. So we knew they would make progress up the field the longer the race went on.

With Daniel and Oliver doing two long sessions they went through the field quickly and took the chequered flag in 1st place.

Daniel was 2nd fastest on the track with a lap time of 39.23 seconds.

Daniel got started again half a lap behind the other drivers but he did not give up.

In very wet conditions, the track waterlogged Daniel went past the drivers one by one and was the fastest on the track. With only one lap to go Daniel was up to 3rd and put pressure on the 2nd place driver to force him into a mistake and Daniel was up to 2nd

Race of the season

Brilliant Racing

Rotax 4th October

Heat 1 Finished 7th with a lap time of 47.16

Heat 2 Finished 5th with a lap time of 46.25

Heat 3 Finished 6th lap time N / A

The Race

Daniel qualified 6th on the grid and got off to a great start went straight in to 5th place. But got pushed off and went down to 11th.

It was a shame as Daniel worked so hard in all the other heats but he did manage to catch 2 drivers and that got him into 9th.

On a very cold day with no luck in the final but is still improving with his second fastest lap time of the season with a good time of 45.91 seconds, not bad in these conditions.

20th September 1 ½ endurance race anti-clockwise oval track

Partner with Joshua Frost (9 teams)

Josh started and struggled with the new track. He qualified in 9th place.

With the bad start we decided to make an early pit stop. Daniel went out and in 10 minutes they went back into 5th place.

Josh went back out again and still found it difficult but in one session did well and lost no places.

Daniel was racing very well and was starting to catch 4th place but the kart had a problem and needed to be changed. This cost Daniel time and went back to 7th place.

This was disappointing as Daniel worked so hard to make up for the poor start. However Daniel recorded the 2nd fastest lap of the day with a 24.71.

Finished in 7th place.

7th September 1 ½ hour endurance race clockwise oval track

Partnered with Alistair Topliss (10 teams)

Daniel started and qualified 3rd on the grid. he got off to a bad start colliding with a couple of tyres on the inside and went back to 8th place.

We made an early pit stop as Daniel was in a bad position, it worked very well. Alistair came out and passed two drivers and got held up. So once again we made an early pit stop.

Just as Daniel went on it started to rain and this worked out well for Daniel as he is good in the wet.

All the drivers were struggling in the bad conditions but not Daniel, in only 18 minutes he went from 9th to 2nd.

With only 12 minutes left Alistair went out and held his position very well to keep him and Daniel in 3rd place.

The times were about 24 seconds on the short track. Daniel once again showed his brilliance in the wet conditions winning another trophy.

Rotax 6th September

Heat 1 finished 5th with a lap time of 46.72

Heat 2 finished 5th with a lap time of 46.22

Heat 3 finished 4th with a lap time of 47.99 (heavy rain)

The Race

Daniel qualified in 5th place and at the first bend lost one place, but held on to 6th place.

Daniel knew he had to get 5th place to get his first trophy, and was giving everything to catch up to 4th and 5th place.

Then the 4th and 5th place drivers collided and Daniel got into 5th place, and that is where Daniel finished.

A great performance especially in Heat 3, in heavy rain to get to 4th place on slick tyres.

Daniel got near to his personal best lap time with a 46.22, very good in the conditions.

Rotax 2nd August

HEAT 1 Finished 6th with a lap time of 46.83 sec

HEAT 2 Finished 4th lap time N / A ( COMPUTER FAILURE )

HEAT 3 Finished 8th with a lap time of 48.06 sec

The Race

Daniel qualified 8th on the grid and didnt get off to a great start going down to 10th place.

The conditions were really bad and hard to race in, heavy rain which Daniel usually enjoys but the kart was not set up for the rain and wet.

Daneil did get up to 8th place but was off the pace and could never catch up.

A great shame as Daniel got up to his best position in Heat 2 and was very close to his personal best lap.

Ellough Park 31st July was called off due to waterlogging

FIRST PRO KART RACE AT RED LODGE

11th July 1 ½ hour endurance race

This was the first time Daniel had raced in an unrestricted pro kart.

Daniel was partnered with Thomas Ebbs another driver from the Top Katz championship.

There were a total of 16 teams; Daniel and Thomas were the two youngest drivers to take part, only 14 years old.

The 16 teams each had to do two pit stops and when the drivers went out onto the track they each had to weigh the same. So each pit stop there needed to be weights put and taken off.

The Race (Heavy Rain)

Daniel and Thomas were 8th place on the grid. The team (VC Racing) decided to put Daniel out first as he has more experience at this level.

Daniel got off to a great start and took two drivers on the first turn, in only 5 minutes got up to 4th place. Daniel was starting to catch the 3rd place driver. Then Daniel made his first mistake and lost 3 places. So the team then decided to make a change.

The plan was to leave Thomas out on the track for 45 minutes and this will leave 35 minutes for Daniel.

Thomas done well to keep his position. He then came in for a pit stop and Daniel and took his place for the last 35 minutes, but as Daniel likes it in the rain this worked in the teams favour.

Daniel had a good last session turning all the back markers with ease, the times were to equally consistent.

Daniel was still in 7th with one lap left to go, and on the last turn he managed to steel 6th place.

It was a brilliant effort by both drivers as they have never competed against drivers with this much experience. This was a great achievement.

Video will be on website soon

6th July 1 ½ hour endurance race clockwise track

Daniel Partnered with Oliver Wheddon (7 teams)

This was the first time Daniel and Oliver have ever been together and Oliver started and qualified 5th on the grid.

Oliver got off to a good started keeping his position but the kart was not at its best and Oliver started to lose places quickly.

We decided to make a quick pit stop to see if Daniel could get any more out of the kart and Daniel quickly signalled that the kart was no good. As soon as we were going to change the kart it started to rain. As Daniel is very good in the wet we decided to leave him out there.

All the other drivers were coming into the pits to get there wet suits on but Daniel decided to stay out there and done brilliantly to get up to 2nd place

As the track was drying out Oliver lost 3 places as the kart was not very good. In the end they finished 4th place even though they had the slowest kart.

There best time was 41.38 seconds but Daniel was one off the quickest in the wet.

Rotax 5th July

HEAT 1 Finished 6th with a lap time of 01.04 mins (heavy rain)

HEAT 2 Finished 5th with a lap time of 46.96 sec

HEAT 3 Finished 8th with a lap time of 46.49 sec

The Race

Daniel qualified 7th on the grid

Started very well, went straight to 5th place due to a crash ahead of Daniel and the race needed to be stop.

The race started again but this time all the karts stayed in there grid positions so Daniel ended restarting the race back in 7th place. This was frustrating as Daniel started so well.

Again Daniel got a good start staying in 7th place. The driver ahead of Daniel held a very good line and Daniel found it hard to get past.

When Daniel did get past the driver there was a huge gap between him and 5th place.

Daniel finished the race in 6th place with a new personal best lap time of 45.65 sec

Still improving and a great days racing.

Ellough Park Pro Kart 26th June ( Ellough Park, Beccles )

19 Drivers Two groups Top Seven go into Final

HEAT 1 Finished 5th with a lap time of 53.95

HEAT 2 Finished 6th with a lap time of 57.42

HEAT 3 Finished 4th with a lap time of 1.15 (HEAVY RAIN)

SEMI-FINAL Finished 4th with a lap time of 1.13 (HEAVY RAIN)

The Race Top 14 Drivers

Daniel qualified 8th on the grid and got off to a good start going into 6th place. Then down the back straight Daniel got hit and was pushed off the track leaving him in last place.

The conditions were very bad due to heavy rain, but as Daniel has shown in the past, he never gives up.

Daniel likes racing in the wet and he proved that by overtaking drivers one by one. From 14th place Daniel got up to 5th and was catching the 3rd and 4th place drivers but the rain was so bad the race had to be stopped.

Daniel finished the race in 5th place with a fastest lap time in the wet which was 1.12 minutes and that was one of the quickest on the night in the wet.
Daniel once again had no luck in the final but it won’t be to long before he wins a trophy.

15th June 1 ½ hour endurance race clockwise track Red Lodge, Bury St Edmunds )

Partnered with Alistair Topliss (10 teams)

Daniel started and qualified 2nd on the grid and got off to a bad start dropping down in 4th after the first turn. He then got hit and dropped back down to 7th.

Daniel then came in to the pits due to the bad start. Alistair done well keeping in 7th but then got into traffic so we made another quick pit stop.

This time the pit stops worked well and Daniel had a clear track ahead of him and the kart was going much better. As a result of this Daniel set the 2nd fastest lap in the race and this brought them up to 3rd place.

Alistair had the last ten minutes of the race and maintained that position.

Daniel was the 2nd fastest on the track with a time of 39.09 seconds.

Rotax 7th June Red Lodge, Bury St Edmunds )

HEAT 1 Finished 8th with a lap time of 48.31

HEAT 2 Finished 10th with a lap time of 01.06.47

HEAT 3 Finished 5th. Lap time N/A due to computer failure.

The Race

Conditions were very bad due to heavy rain.

Daniel qualified 9th on the grid and had a good start.

He kept into position on the first bend. He then hit a large puddle in the back straight and lost two places but another driver also went into a puddle and Daniel went back into 8th.

This was the worst conditions Daniel has raced in but it was good experience and managed to keep his kart on the track in all of the heats to get good championship points.

Daniels best lap time was 48.31 seconds

1st June 1 ½ hour endurance race clockwise half circuit Red Lodge, Bury St Edmunds )

Partnered with Callum Bonfield

Daniel partnered with Callum for the first time; it was also the first time using the half circuit tack. This made it a lot harder to overtake.

Daniel decided to start and qualified 4th on the grid. It was very tight racing until the pit stops came in to play.

Callum’s turn, done very well and managed to maintain 4th place but the front three were now starting to get a good lead. We made a short pit stop to brake the race up, it worked very well. Daniel and Callum were now up to 3rd place.

By doing short stops this gave Daniel the opportunity to catch the leaders which he did, putting them into 1st place. With only 12 minutes left all Callum had to do was to keep out of trouble and race to the flag in 1st place.

Daniel and Callum were also the second fastest on the track with a lap time of 25.85 seconds.

Ellough Park Pro Kart 28th May  ( Ellough Park, Beccles )

21 Drivers Two groups Top Seven into Final

HEAT 1 Finished 1st with a lap time of 55.19

HEAT 2 Finished 6th with a lap time of 53.96

HEAT 3 Finished 7th with a lap time of 53.95

SEMI – FINAL Finished 2nd with a lap time of 52.71

THE RACE TOP 14 DRIVERS

Daniel qualified 3rd on the grid, got off to a slow start and went back to 5th place.

On the back straight he got hit by the 6th and 7th driver pushing him onto the grass, putting him back into 13th place. All the hard work he had done in the previous heats, this was very disappointing for Daniel.

But as Daniel showed before, he never gives up. There were still 14 laps left to go and he went through the field one by one.

Sometimes this is not all about winning but to see Daniel racing through the field like he was doing was very special.

With only 6 laps to go Daniel had worked his way back into 7th, but the other drivers had a good lead. With 4 laps remaining he had two drivers in his sights. He got very close to them approaching the chicane but managed to do an unbelievable move and passed both of them. It was so good he got applause from the marshals. That is how he finished in 5th place.

He also got his personal best lap time which was 52.71.

Brilliant racing!

4th May 1 ½ endurance hour race anti clockwise track (9 teams)  ( Red Lodge, Bury St Edmunds )

Partnered with Brian Fugett and Rino Russo

Daniel started and qualified in 6th place. We made a drivers change early as Daniels kart was not very good. Rino’s turn, he lost one place putting them back into 7th place and signalled to me the kart was no good.

We made a kart change and put Brian out. Poor Brian didn’t look happy with the kart. He struggled and went back into 8th place.

I made a suggestion to the team that we change the kart again, which meant that Daniel ended up being out on the track for the last 35 minutes.

With the slowest kart, this was the only way to get the best out of the kart and by keeping Daniel out for that period of time with the tyres warm, Daniel done well to get up into 5th place.

Daniels best time was 41.05 seconds.

Rotax 3rd May  ( Red Lodge, Bury St Edmunds )

HEAT 1 Finished 7th with a lap time of 47.52

HEAT 2 Finished 8th with a lap time of 46.91

HEAT 3 Finished 8th with a lap time of 46.91

The Race

This was the first time Daniel didn’t get shunted off the track but the kart was not at its best.

Daniel qualified 9th on the grid for the final and got off to a great start, went up to 8th.

At the second bend three karts at the front spun. Daniel done well to avoid contact and went up to 6th place.

Daniel done well to hold onto 6th place he also got a new personal best lap time of 46.23 seconds.

Each month Daniel is getting quicker and this time Daniel had the luck on his side.

Ellough Park Pro Kart Beccles 30th April ( Ellough Park, Beccles )

14 drivers

HEAT 1 – finished 8th with a lap time of 53.95

HEAT 2 – finished 9th with a lap time of 54.05

HEAT 3 – finished 1st with a lap time of 53.34

The Race

Daniel qualified 4th on the grid and got of to a great start with all 4 drivers very close to each other at the first bend. At the second bend Daniel got shunted off onto the grass and went back to last place and ½ a lap down.

This was very disappointing as Daniel worked so hard to qualify in 4th place.

Daniel done all he could to make up a few places, finishing the race in 10th place with his best time of the night which was 53.02 seconds.

This was Daniels 3rd time at Beccles, he is still getting faster and this race was in wet conditions.

Daniel showed how good he is in Heat 3, winning his first heat holding off two O – Plate drivers. Don’t know how Daniel held off these two experience drivers for 8 laps

Brilliant racing.

20th April Top Katz 1 ½ hour endurance race. 9 teams ( Red Lodge, Bury St Edmunds )

Partnered with Thomas Ebbs

This was Daniels first time partnered with Thomas Ebbs. Thomas started and done well. Qualifying in 2nd place.

The race started in very slippery conditions but Daniel and Thomas are very good in the wet. Most of the drivers were struggling in the bad conditions.

For most of the race, Daniel and Thomas were in 2nd place, but the leaders were 40 seconds ahead.

With only 15 minutes remaining, Daniel had the leader in his sights. To catch the leader Daniel had to lap over a second quicker to stand any chance of catching the leader.

With only 10 minutes remaining Daniel was only 6 seconds behind. Daniel could see the leader, now Daniel was right on the back end of the leader.

With only 5 minutes left Daniel done a lovely move to take the lead and there was no stopping him from there and passed the chequered flag in 1st place. Daniel was also the 2nd fastest on the track with a lap time of 40.43 seconds.

Brilliant racing from Daniel and Thomas

Top Katz 6th April  ( Red Lodge, Bury St Edmunds )

1 ½ endurance race (8 team’s anti-clockwise track)

Daniel partnered with Will Easton and Alistair Topliss.

The first Daniel has partnered with both of these drivers and is a much more different race with 3 drivers in one team.

Daniel started first as it was a rolling start qualified in 6th place. Got off to a great start, went straight into 4th and then up to 2nd.

Alistair’s turn and lost two places to more experienced drivers but done well to keep 5th.

Wills turn raced very well to get back up to 2nd place. All 3 drivers done well not to spin in the cold and damp conditions. Finished race in 5th place, with there best time which was 40.45 seconds.

Junior Rotax 5th April  ( Red Lodge, Bury St Edmunds )

Heat 2 2nd on the grid and finished 10th with a lap time of 47.46

Heat 3 3rd on the grid and finished 8th.

Final qualified 8th on the grid and finished 7th.

The race

In wet and cold conditions Daniels first went very well. Done a very good lap time of 46.93 and has a personal best of 46.45 and finished 7th.

Daniel was looking forward to his next race. On the fast straight got hit on his rear bumper. Daniel continued to race but the race rules state, if the kart is dangerous must not continue so Daniel got no championship points.

In the final did not get any better, got a puncture in his rear tyre, but was determined to finish the race and done well to finish in 7th place.

A cold and wet day to forget.

16th March ½ hour endurance race clockwise track 11 teams ( Red Lodge, Bury St Edmunds )

Partnered with Andrew English

First wet race this year.

Andrew started and qualified 5th on the grid.

All drivers were struggling with the conditions and is also not the race to be in on slick tyres.

Andrew did not like the wet conditions; he spun four times in ten minutes putting them back to 10th place.

Done early pit stop to get Daniel out, he has not done much wet racing before but done superbly in only 8 minutes Daniel got up to 6th place.

Daniel was doing so well I kept him out for 27 minutes; this is a long time in these conditions.

Now Daniel was up to 3rd place. Andrews turn and raced much better with the track drying out they continued to race well keeping in 3rd place

Daniel and Andrew finished the race in 4th place; this was a brilliant effort from 10th to 4th.

Daniel was the second fastest on the track with a time of 43.09

QUALIFYING

Daniel started and qualified 6th place on the grid.

THE RACE

Daniel partnered with Oliver Newman in a large field of 11 teams

This was the first time racing anti clockwise and it took a lot of the driver’s time to get use to the new layout. Daniel and Oliver’s kart was not the best as they were only lapping about 43 seconds.

After about 30 minutes Daniel was pushing for 5th place but got to close to the sharp hairpin wall and went back down to 11th. Oliver done well and got up to 7th and done the same as Daniel and hit the wall and went back to 11th.

Red Lodge, Bury St Edmunds )
Partnered with William Payne

QUALIFYING

Qualified 5th on grid from a field of 10 teams

THE RACE

William started well and got straight into 4th place. After 10 minutes went to do an early pit stop but crashed with 3rd place driver. Both drivers went back into last place and 1 ½ laps behind.

Daniel came on and went from 10th to 6th place, and then William got up to 4th place

Daniel was on for the last 23 minutes he done some of the best racing all season; he was the second fastest driver lapping at 40.09 seconds continuously.

With only 15 minutes remaining he was up to third. Then he got up to second place but the third place driver was much lighter and passed Daniel for second, but in doing so both drivers hit and spun together, both drivers recovered to fight to the end.

Daniel and William finished 3rd but only by 3 yards behind 2nd place. Brilliant racing
from both drivers.

10th to 3rd from a lap and a half behind. This is the race of the season by far.

They started very well & climbed to 2nd place. As we made a pit stop the computers crashed and had to be restarted.

This time Daniel had to start 7th and he done a carbon-copy of Barnaby and Raced brilliantly to get into second place.

Most of the race they were in the top 4 but the leaders were almost a lap ahead and at the hour mark Daniel done his best racing he has ever done.

He went from 4th to 2nd and was catching the leader; he was lapping continuously around 41 seconds.

Daniel ended the race in second place and was the second fastest on the track with a time of 40.51 seconds and only 16 seconds behind the leaders. Great racing by both drivers.

ROTAX - JUNIOR CLUB 2000   (
Red Lodge, Bury St Edmunds )

QUALIFYING HEAT 1
Started at rear as he was a novice. The track was very slippery for all drivers, so Daniel raced carefully as he has not experienced that much wet racing before. Finished 7th but done very well and kept on the track.

QUALIFYING HEAT 2
Started at the rear but this time he was on the slicks as the track was drying out. Raced much better and 16 seconds faster than his last practice, finished 7th.

QUALIFYING HEAT 3
Did not complete one lap because of a mechanical failure with the kart.

THE RACE
Daniel did well to finish, other drivers much quicker but it was a good experience, as it was only the second race Daniel has had in his kart. Daniel finished in 6th place, but was 1st of the novices and so won:
January's 1st Place Novice Trophy.
